Of Gatekeepers and Go-Betweens – Testing Hypotheses on Interpreters in History

Abstract

Translation and Interpreting Studies can provide insight in studies in history on language situations. In this paper two metaphors for interpreting situations, “go-betweens” and “gatekeepers”, are examined and tested for fit on the case study of military interpreters during the First World War.
